One of the great exponents of the São Paulo cultural scene, the Municipal Theater (the Municipal Theatro script is still used in some publications), which had its architectural lines inspired by the Paris Opera was inaugurated in 1911 for the leisure of the elite of the time.
Designed by the architect Ramos de Azevedo, nowadays the Municipal does not distinguish between its visitors. In fact, the intention today is precisely to make everyone know its architecture and its history.
The Theatre organizes guided tours for its interior. The tour lasts about an hour and goes through five environments: lobby, grand staircase, concert hall, hall of cabins and noble sation.
The building has undergone numerous renovations and restorations during its more than one hundred years. Several structural differences and curiosities are revealed in these tours.
Do not forget to bring your camera because the architecture and decor are awesome!
Hall of the Arches
In the underground of the Municipal there is a very peculiar space. It is the Hall of Arches, an area of 340 m² where is located the foundation of the building.
The walls are inspired by the old Roman buildings and were raised with granite blocks and masonry bricks without the use of any drop of cement.
After some renovations, the Salão dos Arcos received comfort items such as a modern air conditioning system.Currently the space hosts events, exhibitions and cocktails for the premiere of the Municipal Operas.
This space returned to be the focus of the attention due to a project that foresees the installation of the bar Arcos that should be commanded by the enterpreneur Facundo Guerra.
